Why Your Agency Needs a Landing Page Health Check Before Every Campaign - Kikloper

Most agencies have a pre-campaign checklist. Ad creative approved. Targeting configured. Budget allocated. Tracking verified. UTM parameters in place.

What most checklists don’t include is a systematic check of the landing page itself — not the copy, not the design, not the CTA — but whether it’s actually healthy enough to receive paid traffic.

This gap has a consistent consequence. Campaigns launch against landing pages that are technically live but functionally compromised: slow-loading pages that lose half their visitors before the content appears, SSL certificates within weeks of expiry, response times that look fine on a fast connection but fail under campaign-level traffic load. None of these issues prevent the campaign from launching. All of them quietly undermine its performance from day one.

A landing page health check before every campaign launch isn’t a significant addition to the workflow. It’s a ten-minute process that prevents a category of campaign failures that are otherwise invisible until they’ve already caused damage.

What “Healthy” Actually Means for a Landing Page

A landing page that passes a visual review — looks correct, loads in the browser, form works — isn’t necessarily healthy from a campaign performance perspective.

Health in this context means four things:

It’s up and responding. Not just when you check it manually before launch, but continuously throughout the campaign. A page that’s working fine at 9am on Monday may not be working at 2pm on Tuesday. One-time checks miss intermittent issues.

It’s loading fast enough. Google’s research consistently shows that bounce rate increases sharply as page load time increases beyond two seconds. A page loading in 3.5 seconds before the campaign launches will perform worse than a page loading in 1.5 seconds — and campaign traffic may push load times higher than baseline if the server is under-resourced.

The SSL certificate is valid and not expiring soon. An expired SSL during an active campaign triggers browser security warnings, ad disapprovals, and conversion collapse. An SSL that expires during the campaign run is a ticking problem that’s entirely predictable and entirely preventable with enough lead time.

The domain is stable. Less common, but worth confirming: the domain registration is current and not approaching expiry during the campaign period.

A page that passes all four of these checks is ready for campaign traffic. A page that fails any of them is a liability that the campaign budget will be directed at.

The Pre-Campaign Health Check Process

The health check before a campaign launch should take about ten minutes per landing page. Here’s what it covers.

Check current uptime and recent history. Is the page up right now? Has it been consistently up over the past two weeks? A page with a pattern of brief outages is a risk — campaign traffic will hit those outages at a higher volume than organic traffic, and the cost per interrupted visit is much higher.

Check response time baseline. What is the page’s current load time? If it’s already above two seconds, that’s worth addressing before launch — not after four weeks of underperforming ROAS. If response time data is available over time, look for trends: a page that’s been getting slower over the past month is a problem that will compound under campaign load.

Verify SSL certificate validity and expiry date. Is the certificate valid? How many days until expiry? If the certificate expires during the campaign run — or within 30 days of launch — flag it for renewal before the campaign goes live. An SSL issue mid-campaign is entirely avoidable with this check.

Confirm domain status. When does the domain registration expire? If it’s within the campaign period or shortly after, coordinate renewal with the client before launch.

None of this requires technical access to the server or the hosting account. It requires a monitoring tool that tracks these metrics continuously and surfaces the current status on demand.

Why One-Time Checks Aren’t Enough

A pre-launch health check answers the question “is this page ready to receive traffic today?” It doesn’t answer “will it stay ready for the next thirty days?”

This is where the checklist mindset breaks down. A one-time check is a snapshot. Campaign performance depends on a page that’s healthy continuously — through the entire campaign run, including nights, weekends, and the moments when nobody is actively watching.

The health check before launch establishes a baseline and flags immediate issues. The monitoring that runs throughout the campaign is what catches the things that change after launch: a CDN outage on day twelve, a CMS update on day eighteen that slows the page, an SSL certificate that was valid at launch but expires on day twenty-three.

The pre-launch check and ongoing monitoring aren’t alternatives. They’re the same system used at two different points in the campaign lifecycle.

Building This Into Every Campaign Launch

Kikloper covers the full health check in one place. Real-time uptime monitoring with continuous checks shows current status and recent history. Response time analytics shows baseline load times and trends. SSL certificate tracking shows validity and days until expiry. Domain expiration monitoring covers registration status.

Instant alerts mean that anything which changes after launch — a page going down, an SSL certificate approaching its final week — reaches the account manager immediately, not at the next scheduled review.

For agencies managing multiple campaigns simultaneously, every active landing page is visible in one dashboard. The pre-launch check is a two-minute review of the relevant page’s current status. The ongoing monitoring runs automatically for the duration of the campaign.

The Pro plan covers 20 URLs at $10/month — right-sized for agencies running several client campaigns simultaneously. The Solo plan covers 10 URLs at $5/month for smaller portfolios or freelancers managing individual client campaigns.
